Cygwin is developed for Microsoft Windows and provides a collection of Unix-like tools and utilities. Its documentation can be distributed in GNU Info format for reading from a terminal.
A file with the .info-12 extension contains one numbered part of an Info documentation file. The complete document may include a main .info file and additional files with sequential numeric suffixes. The parts should be kept together so that the Info reader can follow the document's nodes and links.
The files contain text-based documentation rather than executable Cygwin data.
Open the file with the info command included with Cygwin. Keep the .info-12 file in the same directory as the main Info file and its other numbered parts, then open the main file so the reader can navigate the complete documentation.
Because the content is text-based, a text editor can also display it on Microsoft Windows. A text editor may not correctly resolve the links between the numbered Info file segments.
The .info-12 file is one part of a linked Info document and is not normally converted on its own. Keep it with the other files when copying or distributing the documentation.
For HTML, PDF, or another published format, generate the documentation from its original Texinfo source. A text editor can save the visible text in another plain-text form, but that does not preserve the Info navigation structure.
