EOSAT, the Earth Observation Satellite Company, distributed Landsat data products associated with Thematic Mapper imagery. Thematic Mapper was used on the Landsat 4 and Landsat 5 satellites; Landsat 6 did not successfully reach orbit, and its planned instrument was the Enhanced Thematic Mapper.
A .lansat file belongs to this legacy Landsat data workflow rather than to a current general-purpose image application. The format is obsolete, and no known current application provides native support for it.
No known current application can open a .lansat file directly. It may require the original EOSAT or other legacy Landsat processing software.
