Microsoft Site Server was first released in 1996 to help manage complex websites that used technologies such as user management, authentication and authorization, content management, analysis, and indexing and search. The MFA file stores the definition used for a Site Server report.
Site Server 2.0, released in early 1997, incorporated electronic commerce technology from Microsoft Merchant Server, Microsoft's first effort to provide a solution for Internet-based commerce. The product later evolved through Site Server 3.0 and expanded Merchant Server's functionality with content-management tools for web-facing content. It was used by businesses selling products online and by companies operating corporate intranet servers that hosted documents.
Site Server was designed for Microsoft Windows server environments and is now a legacy product. The MFA format is therefore most likely no longer in active use.
Open an MFA file with the Microsoft Site Server installation that created it, using the product's reporting or administration tools. Because Site Server is a legacy Windows server product, a current Windows application may not be able to open the file directly.
