MPD is open-source, multiplatform music player server software. An .mpdconf file contains settings such as the music library location, database and network options, audio outputs, and other daemon behavior.
MPD reads the file when it starts, so changes take effect after the daemon reloads or restarts. The file is separate from the audio files in the library and is intended to be edited as text.
Open an .mpdconf file in a plain-text editor. Do not use a word processor, because it may add formatting that MPD cannot read.
To apply the settings, configure Music Player Daemon to use the file or specify it when starting MPD, then reload or restart the daemon.
An .mpdconf file is a text-based settings file and has no useful media conversion format. There is no need to convert it to play music.
To move the settings to another MPD installation, copy the file or edit its text for the new system's paths, devices, and other environment-specific options.
