MacWrite Pro document file
File type: Document file
The .mwpd file extension identifies a document created by MacWrite Pro, a word processor for Apple Macintosh computers.
File type category:
Document file
Date updated: September 27, 2026
A MacWrite Pro document file stores word-processing content created with MacWrite Pro, including text and document formatting. It is the document format associated with the MacWrite Pro application.
MacWrite Pro is legacy software and the format is no longer in common use. A compatible version of MacWrite Pro or MacWrite may be required to read the file, particularly on current Apple macOS systems.
Open the file with a compatible installation of MacWrite Pro or MacWrite. These are legacy Macintosh applications, so they may not run directly on current macOS versions; an older compatible Mac environment may be required.
If the file opens in a compatible version of MacWrite Pro, use its document export or Save As options to create a format supported by a newer word processor. Available output formats depend on the version of the application.
If no compatible copy of MacWrite Pro is available, the document cannot generally be converted reliably. Copying the recovered text into a modern word processor may preserve the text but not the original formatting.
