Compressed MusicXML was developed by Recordare, and it is successor of MusicXML music notation file format. Because older MusicXML format is a plain text and MusicXML file can be very large, new Compressed MusicXML format uses zip compression algorithm for reduce size.
MusicXML format is used to distribute interactive sheet music online and share sheet music files with a musical applications.
