Napster was peer-to-peer music-sharing software and a network for sharing multimedia files. The .nap file stores music security definition data used by Napster.
The file is part of Napster's internal support data rather than a music file intended for playback. It is associated with the original Windows software and is not generally useful outside that program.
The original Napster peer-to-peer service is no longer in operation, so this format is obsolete and is unlikely to be encountered in current Napster software.
Open the file with the Windows version of Napster that created or requires it. It is a proprietary security-definition file and is not intended to be opened directly in a text editor or media player.
Because the original Napster software and service are obsolete, no current general-purpose program is expected to open this file correctly.
This file contains Napster security-definition data, not audio data, so it cannot be meaningfully converted to a common music or document format.
If the associated Napster installation is still available, retain the file with the other Napster program files. There is no known general-purpose converter for this format.
