File extension nwd is probably best known for its use in NavisWorks software.
NaviWorks Publisher creates compressed and secure NavisWorks .nwd review files that are faithful to the original native 3D data from which they are created. These files are very small, as they compress the CAD data by up to 80% of the original size.
NWD format is essentially a snapshot of NWF format at the time of Publishing. It saves all the geometry, overrides, transforms, viewpoints, clash data, everything. Once saved, you can not go back to NWF.
To publish an NWD snapshot use the Output Tab → Publish → NWD.
NWD format is not backwards compatible, which means you cannot open newer version of an .nwd file in older NavisWorks program. However NavisWorks is able to save to two previous versions of the format.
Autodesk NaviWorks can work with *.nwd files and open them.
Use compatible apps to convert *.nwd files to other formats.
