Date updated: August 19, 2024
The orc file extension used by CSound for “orchestra” data info, was first used by the Orchestra-80/85/95/2000 Music Language and program/hardware originally used for the Radio Shack TRS-80 Models 1, 3, 4, 4P (with a hardware attachment of 2 8-bit DACs via their expansion ports for stereo output using software additive synthesis of up to 5 voices, each with 8-harmonic registers supported) and later (Orch-90/CC) the Color Computer Models 1, 2 and 3 (via a ROMpack).
Such orc files were essentially text only files in upper case only, using a partial compression of the last characters at the end of each line, but setting its high “bit” to one, thus saving two bytes otherwise used for CR/LF control character terminators.
