Phred is a base-calling program for analyzing DNA sequence traces. It examines trace data, identifies called bases and assigns quality information.
A phred file contains data associated with that analysis.

Open the file with Phred on Windows, Mac OS X or a Unix/Linux-based system. Because the file is associated with a specialized sequencing workflow, it may not produce useful results in a general text editor or unrelated application.
Conversion depends on the role of the phred file in the original Phred workflow. If Phred can read the file, use the program's available output functions to produce the required data.
Renaming the extension does not convert the file.
