A pkb file contains the implementation of an Oracle PL/SQL package. It can define the package's procedures, functions, variables, executable statements, and exception handlers.
PL/SQL is Oracle's imperative 3GL for processing SQL commands and implementing application logic in the database. It provides specific syntax for this purpose and supports the same data types as SQL. A package body normally implements declarations made in the package specification.
When submitted to Oracle Database, the PL/SQL source is stored and compiled as a database program unit and runs within the Oracle database server. Server-side PL/SQL inherits the robustness, security, and portability of Oracle Database.
Open a pkb file in any plain-text editor to inspect or edit its PL/SQL source. Oracle SQL Developer can also open the file and submit its contents to an Oracle Database connection.
To use the package body in Oracle Database, run the script with an Oracle tool such as SQL Developer, SQL*Plus, or SQLcl. The database compiles it as a package body.
A pkb file is source code, so it has no useful general-purpose conversion format. It can be saved as another plain-text file, but changing the extension does not change the PL/SQL.
Oracle tools can export a package body's source from an Oracle Database, and the source can be edited manually for another database environment. This is an export or source-code change rather than a conversion of the PKB format.
