The PLX64 file extension is associated with the Interactive Disassembler, also known as IDA, a multiprocessor disassembler and debugger developed by Hex-Rays. IDA is available for Microsoft Windows, macOS and Linux.
A PLX64 file contains a 64-bit plugin used by IDA on Linux. Plugins can add commands, analysis features or other extensions to the disassembler and debugger.
PLX64 is a platform- and architecture-specific plugin format. It is not an IDA database or executable being analyzed, and a plugin built for Linux cannot generally be used directly by the Windows version of IDA. The format remains associated with IDA's Linux plugin support.
Place a PLX64 file in the appropriate plugin directory of the 64-bit Linux version of Interactive Disassembler (IDA) and start IDA. The plugin must be compatible with the installed IDA version.
A PLX64 file is not normally opened as a document by itself. The Microsoft Windows version of IDA generally requires a Windows plugin build rather than a PLX64 file.
A PLX64 file is a compiled, platform-specific plugin, so it cannot be meaningfully converted to a general-purpose file format. To support another operating system or architecture, the plugin normally has to be rebuilt from its source code with the appropriate IDA SDK and compiler.
