Pegasus Mail uses PMPPKG files to distribute selected preference changes. When Pegasus Mail opens a PMPPKG attachment, it treats the attachment as a preferences package and offers the recipient the option of merging its settings with the current preferences.
A PMPPKG file is a modified PMAIL.INI structure. It can contain any of the sections from PMAIL.INI and only needs to include the settings that should be changed, rather than an entire section. Fields can use command substitutions. Integer block fields can contain x placeholders to preserve the current value at a given position, and a hyphen in the "Default settings values" field preserves the value at that position in the existing setting.
PMPPKG handling is built into Pegasus Mail, although it can be overridden by entries in FILETYPE.PM. These entries can be added manually or through the Viewers preferences page. The format is specific to Pegasus Mail on Windows rather than a general-purpose preferences format.
Open a PMPPKG file with Pegasus Mail on Microsoft Windows. When the file is received as an attachment, open or double-click it in Pegasus Mail; the program recognizes it as a preferences package and presents an option to merge its settings with the current preferences.
Do not expect a general text editor or another email program to apply the package correctly, because the merge operation is provided by Pegasus Mail.
A PMPPKG file is intended to be merged by Pegasus Mail rather than converted to another format. To use its contents, merge the package in Pegasus Mail. Because it follows the PMAIL.INI structure, an experienced user can also edit its preference sections as text, but the settings remain specific to Pegasus Mail and should not be converted to another application's configuration format.
