A po file represents the contents of an Apple II diskette. It can contain the disk's data bytes, including catalog tracks, files, and DOS data when present. The ProDOS-order arrangement identifies the image as a .po image rather than a disk image using another sector order.
Apple II emulators treat disk images as virtual diskettes. They are also useful for archiving Apple II disks on a hard drive and distributing them through FTP and other download sites. Lower-level images such as NIB images are intended to preserve additional physical disk information, including sector headers and sync bytes.
