Fractint is a fractal generator originally developed for DOS-compatible computers. A POT file stores an image produced by the program, rather than the parameters used to calculate a fractal.
Fractint images are usually calculated using the level-set method, which produces color bands for regions where the calculation gives the same value. After a 3D transformation, most images other than plasma clouds resemble terraced landscapes, with much of the surface either horizontal or vertical.
Open the file with Fractint on a DOS-compatible system. On a modern computer, Fractint may require a DOS emulator or a compatible port. General image viewers may not recognize the POT format.
Use Fractint to load the POT file and save or export the resulting image in a more widely supported format, such as GIF, when that option is available. Conversion normally preserves the rendered bitmap, not the original fractal-generation parameters.
