The pxm file extension identifies a Pixelmator document for macOS, formerly known as Mac OS X. The format is designed to preserve an editable picture rather than only a flattened bitmap.
A pxm file can contain bitmap image data, multiple layers, effects and other complex graphic elements. Its role is similar to that of a layered Adobe Photoshop PSD file, although the formats are different.
The format belongs to the Pixelmator application for Apple Mac computers, which is not available on Windows. Pixelmator remains the appropriate software for editing the file.
Open the pxm file in Pixelmator on an Apple Mac computer. You can usually double-click the file or use Pixelmator's Open command.
Pixelmator is the relevant application for opening and editing this format. The application is not available on Windows.
Open the file in Pixelmator and use its export command to save the picture in a standard graphics format such as JPEG, PNG, TIFF or PDF. Exporting flattens or otherwise changes the editable Pixelmator document, so keep the original pxm file if its layers and effects are needed.
