The rax file extension is associated with RealMedia, a multimedia technology developed by RealNetworks for distributing audio and video over the Internet. A RAX file contains proprietary streaming audio data rather than a general-purpose, uncompressed audio recording.
RAX is associated with later versions of the RealAudio format and was used for both streaming and downloaded content. At low bit rates, RealAudio 10 uses the same high-compression codecs as previous RealAudio versions. Above 128 kbps, it switches to AAC, providing higher fidelity and compatibility with AAC-enabled players.
The format is primarily associated with RealPlayer on Microsoft Windows.
On Microsoft Windows, open a RAX file with RealPlayer.
WMAConvert Platinum for Microsoft Windows can also work with compatible RAX files.
RAX is a proprietary RealMedia streaming format, so conversion is not always available, especially when the file is protected or depends on an online stream.
On Microsoft Windows, WMAConvert Platinum can convert compatible RAX files to supported audio formats. RealPlayer is primarily a playback application and may not provide a general-purpose export function for every RAX file.
