The Real-time PCR Data Markup Language is an open, structured standard for exchanging quantitative PCR data between instruments and analysis applications. An rdml file can contain fluorescence measurements, sample and target information, experiment details, and analysis results.
RDML is XML-based, so the data is organized as readable structured text rather than as a proprietary binary database. The format is intended to preserve both measurement data and the metadata needed to interpret it.
RDML-Ninja is a Microsoft Windows application for working with RDML files.
On Microsoft Windows, open the rdml file with RDML-Ninja. You can usually open it from the application's Open command or by opening the file in Windows if the association has been configured.
Because the file is XML-based, it can also be viewed as text, but a text editor will not provide qPCR analysis or visualization.
An rdml file normally does not need conversion when the goal is to exchange or analyze qPCR data. Open it in RDML-Ninja or another application that supports the RDML standard.
For use in a spreadsheet or another analysis system, export the required measurements from a compatible qPCR application when that application provides an appropriate export option. Renaming the file extension does not convert the data.
