The .reo extension identifies a compiled dBASE report, commonly described as dBASE.Report.Compiled. It is generated when a dBASE report is processed for use by a compiled application or runtime environment.
REO files use a proprietary, program-specific binary format. Their contents can include compiled report instructions and references to data sources, layouts, formatting, and runtime resources. The file is not generally intended to be edited with a text editor, and changing its contents manually can make it unusable.
The format is associated with dBASE, including products from dBase, LLC. Runtime installations may use supporting resource libraries such as PLUSr_en.dll to provide language-specific or other dBASE runtime functionality.
Native support is primarily available on Microsoft Windows through dBASE development or runtime software. There is no broadly documented native REO viewer for macOS or Linux; users on those platforms may need a compatible Windows environment or should request the original report in a portable format such as PDF.
On Windows, try opening or running the file with the version of dBASE Plus or the dBASE runtime that created it. In many cases, an REO file is loaded indirectly by a dBASE application rather than opened from a file manager. Keep the associated program files, data tables, and runtime libraries together.
macOS and Linux generally do not have dedicated native REO applications. A compatible Windows installation in a virtual machine or compatibility environment may work, but results depend on the dBASE version and its dependencies. If the file will not open, ask the creator to export the report to PDF or another standard format.
There is no widely available general-purpose converter for compiled REO files. If the original dBASE report definition and project are available, open them in the appropriate version of dBASE Plus and export or print the report to PDF, HTML, or a supported text or image format.
Online conversion services generally do not support REO and should not be used for confidential report data. When only the compiled file is available, the most reliable approach is to run it in its original dBASE application and use that application's print or export features. Converting a PDF or other exported result back into an editable dBASE report normally requires rebuilding the report manually.
