Renoise is music production software from Renoise that combines pattern-based tracking with samples, instruments and effects. An RNS file can contain a song's patterns, samples, instruments, effects and project settings.
The file belongs to the Renoise song and project workflow, so its contents can be edited in Renoise. Renoise is available for Windows, macOS and Linux.
RNS is a legacy Renoise song format. Newer Renoise versions generally use the .xrns format for song files, although compatible Renoise versions may still open older RNS files.
Open the .rns file in Renoise on Windows, macOS or Linux. Use Renoise's Open command and select the file; compatibility can depend on the age of the song and the version of Renoise being used.
Open the file in a compatible version of Renoise and save it in the current Renoise song format, typically .xrns. Renoise can also render the song to an audio format when a finished recording is needed, but this produces audio rather than another editable tracker project.
