CA-Realizer was a BASIC-language software development product originally developed by Within Technologies and first commercially released by Computer Associates as CA-Realizer 1.0 in 1992.
It combined a version of the BASIC programming language with rapid application development tools, including form-building features and built-in components. It also included features such as a spreadsheet and was designed for cross-platform use.
CA-Realizer was available in 16-bit versions for Windows 3.1, 32-bit versions for Windows 95, and a 32-bit version for IBM OS/2. The final version was CA-Realizer 3.0, released around 1996. The .rts files contain the runtime libraries used by the software.
An .rts file is a CA-Realizer runtime component rather than a file intended for direct viewing or editing. It is normally loaded automatically by a CA-Realizer application when that application runs.
To use one, run the associated CA-Realizer application on a supported legacy Windows or IBM OS/2 system with the required runtime files available. CA-Realizer itself is not generally available on current operating systems.
CA-Realizer runtime library files are not user documents and cannot usually be converted to another format. They should be kept with the CA-Realizer application that requires them.
If the goal is to preserve or reuse a CA-Realizer application, retain the original application files and runtime libraries together rather than attempting to export the .rts file independently.

RTSL was developed by RealNetworks for use with RealPlayer. An RTSL document can describe a streaming presentation and identify the RealMedia streams that RealPlayer should access or play.
RealNetworks used the IETF-standardized Real Time Streaming Protocol (RTSP) to manage streaming connections. The media data itself was delivered using the company's proprietary Real Data Transport (RDT) protocol, whose specifications were initially kept secret. Some RDT specifications were later made public through the Helix Community project, and the open-source MPlayer project developed support for playing RDT streams.
RTSL is a legacy format associated with older RealNetworks streaming software. It is therefore uncommon today, and support may be limited even on systems that can still run RealPlayer for Microsoft Windows.

Open the RTS file in RealPlayer on Microsoft Windows. If the file is not associated with RealPlayer, start the program and use its Open command to select the file.
The document may depend on network-accessible RealNetworks streams. If those streams are no longer available, RealPlayer may open the document but be unable to play its referenced media.
There is no generally supported direct conversion from an RTSL document to a modern media file because it is a streaming-description document rather than an audio or video recording.
If the referenced media can still be played, it must be obtained separately and converted from its actual RealMedia format with software that supports that format. The RTSL instructions themselves generally need to be recreated in another playlist or presentation format rather than converted automatically.
