SafeBoot encrypted archive
File type category:
Encoded and encrypted file
Date updated: January 3, 2019
The sbe file extension was in the past also used for a special encrypted archive file type in a program called SafeBoot. Seems to be something from early 2000s and no longer actively used.
How to open sbe file?
Only the original SafeBoot program can access these encrypted archives.
A user in possession of a safeboot-encrypted .sbe archive that was not converted to a .exe file used to be able to download a stand-alone decrypting tool from SafeBoot corp's website, but the site may have been eliminated in the McAfee acquisition, but the tool may have been archived on some popular third-party software repositories.
How to convert sbe file?
We do not know about any possible conversion, however, it is likely that you would have to first decrypt the files before you can attempt any conversion.
The program also had innate function that allowed users to convert the archives to .exe files, that could be send to other users so they can access (with password) the data without the original tool.
