The .sci file extension is sometimes associated with Vundo, also known as VirtuMonde or VirtuMundo. Vundo is malicious Windows software with both Trojan and adware characteristics. It was widespread and difficult to remove.
After installation, Vundo can download and display pop-up advertisements. These advertisements may promote questionable computer-enhancement products or fraudulent anti-virus and anti-spyware utilities. Vundo has also been associated with rogue programs including WinFixer2005, WinAntiVirus Pro 2006, WinAntiSpyware and RazeSpyware.
Files with this extension in this context are infected or malware-related data rather than files intended for normal editing.
Do not try to open an .sci file associated with Virtumonde or Vundo. Scan it with an up-to-date antivirus program and follow the program's instructions to quarantine or remove it.
On Microsoft Windows, the linked programs include Avast Antivirus, AVG Antivirus, Norton Antivirus, BitDefender, ESET NOD32 Antivirus and Norton Internet Security. These programs can examine the file as malware-related data; they are not document viewers for this file.
There is no meaningful conversion from this type of Vundo-infected data to another file format. Do not use a file converter or rename the file in an attempt to make it safe.
Have the antivirus software quarantine or remove the file instead. If legitimate data was affected, restore it only from a clean backup after the infection has been removed.

The Sierra AdLib audio format was used in various older Sierra On-Line computer games. The files contain instructions for AdLib FM-synthesis audio rather than the sampled audio used by many modern sound formats.
An SCI file normally forms part of a game's audio resources and is interpreted by software that emulates or supports the original AdLib hardware. The format is historical and is no longer commonly used in new software.
On Microsoft Windows, Winamp with the AdPlug plugin can play these files. Audio Overload provides playback on Apple macOS and Mac OS X.
On Microsoft Windows, open the file with Winamp after installing the AdPlug plugin. On Apple macOS or Mac OS X, use Audio Overload.
These programs reproduce the AdLib-compatible music rather than opening the file as a standard WAV or MP3 recording.
SCI files are music data for AdLib-compatible playback, not conventional recorded audio, so they do not have a widely used direct conversion format.
To create a standard audio file, play the SCI file in compatible software and record the resulting audio output to a format such as WAV. This produces a recording of the playback rather than converting the original data directly.
