The SIDX file extension is associated with StuffIt compression tools developed by Smith Micro Software. A SIDX file stores index information that StuffIt uses to identify and manage files contained in an archive.
The index belongs to the related StuffIt archive and is used as supporting data by the software. It does not normally contain the complete archived file data by itself.
StuffIt software associated with this format includes StuffIt Deluxe and StuffIt for Microsoft Windows, and StuffIt Deluxe for Mac and StuffIt for Mac for Apple macOS and Mac OS X.
Open the related StuffIt archive with StuffIt Deluxe or StuffIt on Microsoft Windows, or with the corresponding StuffIt application on Apple macOS or Mac OS X. The SIDX file is normally used by the application as supporting index data rather than opened as a document.
If the file was separated from its archive, opening it alone will generally not display the archived files. Keep it with the associated StuffIt archive when opening the archive.
A SIDX file is an internal archive index and is not normally converted separately. To obtain files in a more widely usable format, open the associated archive in StuffIt and extract its contents.
Recreating the index by opening or rebuilding the archive in StuffIt is preferable to attempting to convert the SIDX file itself.
