HyperCard was an Apple application for creating and browsing stacks of linked cards. A stack could contain cards, backgrounds, buttons, text fields, graphics, and HyperTalk scripts.
The STAK file is the main document file for a HyperCard stack. It can hold both the stack's content and the instructions that control its interactive behavior.
HyperCard was designed for classic Macintosh system software. It is no longer sold or supported, and the STAK format is now generally encountered only in legacy Macintosh collections or archival material.
Open the STAK file in HyperCard on a compatible classic Macintosh system. Modern macOS does not natively support HyperCard, so a suitable legacy Macintosh environment may be required.
Keep a backup of the original file before opening or modifying it, because current software may not preserve the stack correctly.
There is no broadly supported modern converter for HyperCard STAK files. If the file can be opened in HyperCard, content may be copied or exported from the stack, but interactive behavior and HyperTalk scripts may not transfer to another format.
