The .theworldisyours file extension was used by some later Samas/SamSam ransomware variants, which first appeared in late December 2016.
The ransomware also drops a ransom note named CHECK-IT-HELP-FILES.html in affected folders.
A .theworldisyours file cannot normally be opened or used because its contents are encrypted. A decryptor for the specific Samas/SamSam variant is required to restore access.
