Files with thmx extension are themes for Microsoft Office that can customize the appearance of documents created in the program. Its some sort of universal looking template across all supported Office applications - Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

File extension thmx is associated with Microsoft Office themes. A new feature introduced in the 2007 Office system, the Office themes, lets you apply predefined styles to your documents.
A theme will globally change the look of your presentation, including the fonts, graphics, colors, and effects.
The themes are stored in thmx files, and the built-in Office themes are stored this way in C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Document Themes 12\.
The format of a thmx file itself is a ZIP-based format (just like the OpenXML fileformat).
With the use of the thmx templates, it is possible for users to create uniform looking documents in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, which all are part of Microsoft Office Suites are able to apply the *.thmx templates when creating new documents.
There is no way how to convert .thmx files to other formats.
