Tkined runs on the Tcl/Tk X11 toolkit and provides a graphical editor for drawing network maps. A Tkined file contains the map's graphical objects and their relationships, together with information that Tkined uses to restore the map.
The file is saved as Tcl-based data, allowing Tcl applications to work with the objects displayed in the editor. Many such applications are based on Scotty, an extension to Tcl that provides access to network management protocols and related functions.
Tkined was developed for X11-based systems and is associated with the older Scotty network management environment. The registered MIME type is application/x-tkined.
Open a Tkined file with Tkined from the Scotty toolkit on a system with Tcl/Tk and an X11 environment. Use Tkined's Open command and select the .tkined file.
Because the file is Tcl-based, it can also be inspected as text, but editing it outside Tkined may damage the map or its associated commands.
Open the file in Tkined and use the program's save or export commands to produce another representation, if the required option is available in your installation.
