The .vforvendetta extension seems to be used by a newer version of Samsam ransomware.
Samsam is ransomware that targets files on Windows systems. The VforVendetta variant encrypts users' files and appends the .vforvendetta extension to their names.
The affected file contains encrypted data from the original file, so its original contents and file type cannot be used normally while the encryption remains in place. The ransomware demands a ransom in exchange for a decryption key.
No regular application can open a .vforvendetta file as its original document, image, archive, or other file type. Renaming the extension does not decrypt the data.
