The XP file extension identifies a FastTracker II pattern. The file stores pattern data such as notes, channels and tracker effects, rather than representing a complete song on its own.
FastTracker II was developed by Triton as a DOS-based audio tracker. A pattern can be used together with the instruments, samples and other patterns in a FastTracker song, which can then be saved as an XM module. FastTracker II is legacy software, but the XP format remains associated with its module workflow.
Open the file with FastTracker II on DOS. On a modern operating system, the original DOS program may require a DOS emulator. The pattern is intended to be loaded into a FastTracker song rather than played as a self-contained audio file.
An XP file is not an audio recording, so it cannot be meaningfully converted directly to WAV or another audio format. Load the pattern into a FastTracker song with its required instruments and samples, then save the completed song as an XM module.
To create an audio file, render the completed module with a tracker or module player that supports XM files.
