SimCity Societies was developed by Tilted Mill Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. The game allows players to build and manage cities, and uses XSM files for saved-game data.
An XSM file is a proprietary part of the game's save system rather than a general-purpose document or exchange format. Its contents are intended to be read by SimCity Societies when a saved city is loaded.
The format is associated with the Microsoft Windows version of SimCity Societies and remains tied to that older game.
Open an XSM file from within SimCity Societies by using the game's load-game option. If the file is not in the game's expected save location, copy or move it there according to the installation's save-game arrangement.
Other applications generally cannot open an XSM file as a readable document because it contains proprietary game data.
There is no standard converter for XSM files. The file is intended to be loaded by SimCity Societies, not converted to a general-purpose format.
