Record marked as obsolete and not updated for a long time.
Zaxcom developed the ZAX format for storing audio recorded by its professional audio equipment. It uses lossless compression, so the audio data can be reduced in size without discarding audio information.
The format also uses audio interleaving techniques designed to improve transfer performance. These techniques allowed a DVD to transfer audio at rates typically three times faster than is now possible.
ZAX is an obsolete format. Files may require compatible Zaxcom recording equipment or software for access, rather than a current general-purpose audio application.
Open a .zax file with compatible Zaxcom recording equipment or software. Standard audio players and editors generally do not support this proprietary format.
If the original Zaxcom equipment or software is unavailable, opening the file may require obtaining a compatible legacy system.
A .zax file cannot normally be converted with a generic audio converter. If compatible Zaxcom equipment or software can read the file, use its audio export function to create a standard format such as WAV.
Without a compatible Zaxcom system or utility, there may be no practical way to convert the file.
