The zm7 file extension is associated with ZoneAlarm, a personal firewall software, originally created by Zone Labs and currently developed by CheckPoint Software Technologies LTD.
One of ZoneAlarm features is MailSafe, which detects e-mail attachments and warns the user about their presence. When a potentially dangerous attachment is detected, the program quarantines the file with simple renaming of its original file extension, so it breaks the common program association function in Windows and prevents such files from being executed (or launched via associated program).
A file with zm7 file extension originally had WMS file extension (Windows Media Player skin file). Simple renaming will restore the Windows associations with such file, however it is not advised, unless you are absolutely sure it safe to do.
You can rename the ZM7 file extension back to WMS and work with the file normally. This can however be potentially dangerous, because the file was quarantined for a reason. So always re-check it with your anti-virus or anti-spyware programs before you rename the files.

The ZM7 file extension identifies the movie recording for ZSNES movie slot 7. The file stores gameplay input and timing data so that ZSNES can reproduce a session, rather than storing the gameplay as a conventional video.
To replay the movie, ZSNES uses the recording together with the corresponding game ROM and compatible emulator settings. The file is therefore associated with ZSNES's movie-recording features and is not normally useful as a standalone media file.
ZM7 is a legacy emulator format associated with ZSNES. The format remains relevant for recordings made with ZSNES, although ZSNES is an older emulator and the format is not a general-purpose video format.
Open the ZM7 file with ZSNES on Microsoft Windows. Use ZSNES's movie playback option and provide the corresponding game ROM if the emulator requests it.
The recording may not replay correctly with a different ROM version or incompatible emulator settings.
A ZM7 file cannot be meaningfully converted directly to a standard video or general-purpose game-save format because it contains emulator playback data.
To create a video, replay the movie in ZSNES and capture the emulator output with suitable screen-recording software. This produces a video recording rather than a converted ZM7 file.
