The zmd file extension is associated with ZoneAlarm, a personal firewall software, originally created by Zone Labs and currently developed by CheckPoint Software Technologies LTD.
One of ZoneAlarm features is MailSafe, which detects e-mail attachments and warns the user about their presence. When a potentially dangerous attachment is detected, the program quarantines the file with simple renaming of its original file extension, so it breaks the common program association function in Windows and prevents such files from being executed (or launched via associated program).
A file with zmd file extension originally had ocx file extension (ActiveX control file). Simple renaming will restore the Windows associations with such file, however it is not advised, unless you are absolutely sure it safe to do.
You can rename the ZMD file extension back to OCX and work with the file normally. This can however be potentially dangerous, because the file was quarantined for a reason. So always re-check it with your anti-virus or anti-spyware programs before you rename the files.
Conversion to other formats is not possible.

ROSE Online uses ZMD files to store the skeletal data associated with its 3D models. This data defines the bones used to position and animate parts of a model.
A ZMD file is one component of the game's model data rather than a standalone document. The game reads it together with the other files required to display and animate the relevant model.
The format is specific to ROSE Online and is intended for the Microsoft Windows version of the game. It is not a general-purpose 3D model format and is not commonly used outside the game's data files.
On Microsoft Windows, ROSE Online can load a ZMD file when it is placed in the correct location within the game's data files. The file is normally not opened individually by the player.
There is no standard Windows viewer for ZMD files. To inspect or edit one, use a ROSE Online modding tool that explicitly supports the game's ZMD format.
ZMD files cannot be usefully converted with a general-purpose file converter. They contain game-specific bone data rather than a complete, portable 3D model.
Keep the file in its original format for use with ROSE Online. Any conversion or export requires a specialized tool that supports ROSE Online model data and may need the associated model files as well.
