ZoneAlarm is firewall and security software originally developed by Zone Labs and now developed by Check Point Software Technologies. Its MailSafe feature checks email attachments for potentially dangerous content and warns the user when such content is detected.
When MailSafe identifies an attachment as potentially unsafe, it quarantines the attachment and changes its original file extension to .zpd. This breaks the normal Windows file association and helps prevent the attachment from being launched accidentally.
A ZPD file is therefore not normally a separate document format. It is a renamed version of the original attachment, and the original file type may need to be identified before the file can be used. The format is associated with the Windows version of ZoneAlarm.
A ZPD file is not normally opened directly. It should be handled through the ZoneAlarm MailSafe quarantine or attachment workflow when possible.
If the attachment is known to be safe, restore its original file extension and then open it with the appropriate Windows program. Do not restore or launch the file unless its source and contents are trusted.
A ZPD file does not have a separate format that can be converted. The .zpd extension is a security rename applied by ZoneAlarm MailSafe.
If the attachment is safe and its original type is known, rename it back to the original file extension. This restores the file's normal association; it does not convert the file's contents.
