The gar file extension is related to GPS_COM, a program which performs Downloading, Uploading, and Listing of User, Route, Almanac, Track, and Proximity Databases, and Uploading of Aviation Databases using the serial interface.
Where possible, these operations take place at up to 115,200 baud. GPS_COM is part of AviaDBM Software for Garmin.
