File type specification:

Backup file type icon Backup file type

File extension ori is often used by various applications to keep the original file, when copying, renaming, altering or otherwise changing a file. Where a backup file is created by renaming or appending the original file extension to/with .ori, which is short for the original.

For example:

  • autoexec.bat.ori
  • system.ini.ori
  • settings.ini.ori
  • io.sys.ori

Help how to open:

These files are usually restored by restoring their original suffix.
Be careful when restoring extensions of executable files (.bat, .exe). Do not run these files unless you know what you're doing or where these files come from.

How to convert:

If you know what the original file was, simply rename the extension back and convert the file using any suitable means.
