ORIG file extension - Mostly backup of original file before changes
What is orig file? How to open orig files?
The orig file extension is used by some programs to keep the original file, when copying, renaming, altering or otherwise changing a file. Where a backup file is created by renaming the original file extension to *.orig.
For example:
- autoexec.bat.orig
- config.sys.org
- io.sys.orig
- settings.ini.org
Help how to open:
Open .orig file with the program that created the file. If the filename contain two file extensions (e.g. somename.txt.orig), you can remove orig file extension and open the file with text editor.
Be careful when before .orig suffix is e.g. the extension .bat, .exe, or other extensions that are used for executable files. Do not run these files unless you know what you're doing or where these files come from.
How to convert:
As far as we know, this .orig file type can't be converted to any other file format. This is usually the case of system, configuration, temporary, or data files containing data exclusive to only one software and used for its own purposes. Also some proprietary or closed file formats cannot be converted to more common file types in order to protect the intellectual property of the developer, which is for example the case of some DRM-protected multimedia files.
