Google went public in August of 2004, after being a private company since September of 1998. From the beginning, Google's motto was, "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful".
It was first incorporated as a privately held company on September 4, 1998, and its initial public offering followed on August 19, 2004.
The Google mission is "to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful". The unofficial Google claim by Google engineer Paul Buchheit is "Don't be evil". In 2006, the company moved to their current headquarters in Mountain View, California.
