File type specification:
File extension sprite has been also used for the default sprite format in the original version of Scratch 1.4.
Scratch's sprite is an object or character that can be programmed to perform actions based on scripts in a project using blocks. Each sprite has its own scripts, costumes, and sounds, and can move on its own.
By default, creating a new project will provide a sprite with an image of the Scratch Cat without any scripts. With version 1.4. users were able to load their own sprites.
