File type from Z88, an open-source finite element analysis (FEA) software
File type: 3d graphics, CAD-CAM-CAE file
If you encounter a *.z88 file, it’s almost certainly linked to the Z88 finite element system. To work with it, you’ll need the corresponding Z88 (or Z88Aurora) FEA software - or a compatible converter that can handle the Z88 format.

The .z88 file extension is most commonly associated with Z88, an open-source finite element analysis (FEA) software package developed at the University of Bayreuth in Germany.
Z88 (in both its classic form and the newer Z88Aurora) uses *.z88 files to store input data for finite element simulations - such as mesh data, material properties, boundary conditions, and other model parameters.
When you create or open a project in Z88 or Z88Aurora, the program may generate or read *.z88 files to handle the geometry and solver settings for a particular simulation.
Typically, you will see .z88 as one of several file types the software uses (others might include *.inp, *.txt, or specialized mesh files depending on the version of Z88 or how the data are imported).
Not to be confused with…
Z88Aurora / Z88: These applications natively open and process .z88 files.
Some FEA programs may provide import/export functionality for Z88 files, but often you’d have to convert .z88 files to a more universal format (e.g., Nastran .bdf, Abaqus .inp) if direct support is not available.
