The a11 file extension is associated with ARJ. Its one part of a multi-volume compressed ARJ archive.
arj is the native format of ARJ archiver. ARJ is a file archiver that compresses files into a disk space saving archive. It is fast, reliable, and has a rich set of features which include Windows 9x, Millenium long filename support, file version management, data damage protection, ANSI escape sequence display handler, configurable command options, multiple volume archives (archives that span diskettes) and much more.
Some ARJ files can be parts of a multi-volume sequences. In ARJ you can split a huge archive to a few smaller files, which are called volumes.

In order to unpack the multi-volume ARJ archive, you need to place ALL of the split parts in the same directory and start extraction of the first volume (.arj). The program will automatically use all of the parts to extract the content of the archive.
The a11 (e.g. Avatar.a11 file) file is only one part of ARJ multi-volume archive. If you want to extract this file, you must have all parts of the ARJ multi-volume archive. Open the first part of ARJ (e.g Avatar.arj file) multi-volume archive in ARJ application and extract files from ARJ multi-volume archive.
It is not possible to convert only one part of ARJ multi-volume archive. Only complete ARJ archive can be converted in to another archive or compression format. The easiest way how to convert complete ARJ multi-volume archive is to decompress the ARJ archive with the use of ARJ or any other supported archiver and repack the content with another compression or archive application of your choice.

AOL Instant Messenger was an instant messaging client from AOL. The .a11 file was used for graphic content associated with the AIM Windows application.
This is a proprietary AIM resource rather than a general-purpose image format. The file may form part of the program's installed graphics and is not normally intended to be edited as a standalone image.
The format is obsolete because the AIM service and desktop client are no longer in active use. The extension has been associated with the MIME types application/a11, application/x-a11, image/a11, and image/x-a11.
Open an .a11 file with AOL Instant Messenger on Microsoft Windows if the original AIM software and the file's associated resources are still available. AIM is discontinued, so it may not be possible to open the file with current software.
General image viewers and editors usually do not recognize this proprietary AIM graphic format.
The AIM .a11 format is a program resource rather than a standard image file, so it cannot normally be converted directly with common image software.
If an older AIM installation can display the graphic, the visible result can be preserved by capturing or exporting it from that environment, when the software provides such an option.
