PhysioBank is a database of digital physiologic signals and related data. An atr file is a companion file for a recording rather than the signal data itself.
The file contains time-based annotations, such as beat and event labels, linked to samples in the recording. The annotations help software identify and analyse features of an electrocardiogram or another physiologic signal.
PhysioBank data can be used on multiple platforms with WFDB-compatible applications and tools.
Open the corresponding PhysioBank record with a WFDB-compatible application. The WFDB tools can read the atr file together with the signal and header files that have the same record name.
On supported platforms, the WFDB command-line tools can display the annotations, while applications such as WAVE can display them alongside the signal. An atr file is not normally useful by itself.
WFDB tools can display or export the annotations as text for analysis.
There is no general-purpose conversion needed for this format. Converting the file to a text or another annotation format may discard WFDB-specific annotation information, so keep the original atr file with its recording.

The .atr (array tree) file records the order in which the arrays (columns) were joined during hierarchical clustering in the Stanford Microarray Database.
It describes the array-side clustering result rather than storing the underlying microarray expression measurements. The file is used with associated microarray data to interpret or display the array tree.
Open the file with software that supports Stanford Microarray Database clustering results or with a compatible microarray tree viewer. The associated data file may also be required to display the tree meaningfully.
A plain-text editor can inspect the file contents, but it will not provide a graphical tree view.
ATR is a companion tree file, so it should generally be retained with the related microarray data and clustering files.
If compatible microarray analysis software provides export options, open the associated dataset and clustering results there to produce another representation.
