The db.crypt5 file extension is associated with the WhatsApp, an instant messaging service and the same named client for iOS, Android, Windows Phone and other systems.
The actual extension is just crypt12, the DB is part of the file name however.
The crypt5 file stores encrypted database with saved conversations.
WhatsApp Messenger also uses crypt, crypt6, crypt7 file extension for its encrypted databases.
WhatsApp Messenger uses the first account added on Android phone generally Google Account to encrypt chats stored in *.crypt5 database.
To view content of *.crypt5 file for example in WhatsApp Viewer you need to know, which the first account is related to Android phone, where the *.crypt5 file was stored.
By default, the file is called: msgstore.db.crypt5 and it is stored in phone SDcard/WhatsApp/Databases folder.
