The db.crypt7 file extension is associated with the WhatsApp Messenger an instant messaging service and instant messaging client for various mobile platforms. The actual extension is just crypt7, the DB is part of the file name however. A crypt7 file stores encrypted and protected database with chat history.
WhatsApp Messenger also uses crypt, crypt5, crypt6 file extension for its encrypted databases.
The crypt7 file is encrypted by personal key stored in:
/data/data/com.whatsapp/files/key file
Tools that are able to decrypt *.crypt7 files, need this file. To grab it you need Root installed in your Android phone and use for example MyPhoneExplorer, or Root Explorer file manager and make a copy of key file.
By default, the file is called: msgstore.db.crypt7 and it is stored in phone SDcard/WhatsApp/Databases folder.
Use WhatsApp Tri-Crypt to open *.crypt7 files.
