Gzip, also known as GNU Zip, is a compression utility from the GNU project. It is popular on Unix-based operating systems and is also available for MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows.
An .igz file typically contains an image compressed with Gzip. The image's original format is preserved inside the compressed file, so IGZ is a compression convention rather than a separate image format.
Gzip is still widely used on Linux and Unix systems. The .igz extension identifies a Gzip-compressed image, although the more common .gz extension is also used for Gzip-compressed data.
Use the Gzip utility to decompress the .igz file. On Linux and Unix, Gzip is commonly available from the command line. Gzip versions are also available for MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows.
After decompression, open the resulting image with a program that supports its original image format.
Decompress the .igz file with Gzip to recover the original image. The resulting image can then be exported or converted with an image-editing or image-conversion program that supports its format.
To create another compressed copy, compress the image with Gzip again. Gzip compression itself does not convert the image to a different image format. The extracted data can also be placed in another archive format with suitable archive software.
