A compression format which started on the Amiga but has migrated to other platforms. The various programs base their algorithms on those developed by Lempel-Ziv.

Files compressed with LHA typically have the extension .lzh but variations abound (lhw, lzs, lzw). LHA was created by Haruyasu Yoshizaki.

It uses the same lz77 algorithm as GZip with a tree data structure plus block-by-block secondary status Huffman coding.
