Magic Lantern is community-developed firmware that adds features, including RAW video recording, to supported Canon EOS digital cameras. The software runs from the camera's SD or CF card, and recordings are commonly stored there.
The recording uses Magic Lantern's MLV workflow. When a recording is split into multiple files, the main file has the MLV extension and continuation parts use numbered extensions such as M00, M01 and M03. An m03 file therefore contains part of the RAW video recording.
The format is intended for processing in the Magic Lantern RAW workflow rather than for general-purpose video playback. Desktop tools such as MLV App are available for Windows, macOS and Linux, while Magic Lantern itself runs on supported Canon EOS cameras.
