File extension emb is also commonly used for various vendor independent embroidery designs produced by software like Orchida or Wilcom.
Probably used for exchange purposes or as default projects / designs (contains shapes, stitching patterns, etc.). Can be typically exported to vendor specific formats.
EMB format is for example used in Elna Xquisite range of machines.
Much like any other embroidery file, *.emb files can be opened in a broad range of embroidery design software.
Typically embroidery designs may be converted between each other. There also exist a digitizing function that allows users to create embroidery designs from bitmap pictures (*.jpg etc.).

Record marked as obsolete and not updated for a long time.
The EMBL nucleotide format is a legacy sequence-record format developed by the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), a non-profit organization and basic research institute funded by public research monies from 20 member states and one associate member. It stores nucleotide sequences together with descriptive and biological annotation.
An EMBL record can contain an accession identifier, sequence description, references, feature annotations and the nucleotide sequence itself. The format is text-based and is intended for exchange between sequence databases and analysis programs rather than for use as a project file for one particular desktop application.
The format is associated with the EMBL nucleotide sequence database, which is now part of the European Nucleotide Archive (ENA) operated by EMBL-EBI. The .emb extension is obsolete, although EMBL-style flat-file records may still be encountered in legacy data and bioinformatics workflows.
MIME type:
chemical/x-embl-dl-nucleotide
An .emb file can be viewed as plain text in any text editor. This shows the record headers, feature annotations and sequence, but does not provide sequence-analysis functions.
For structured access, open it with molecular biology or bioinformatics software that supports EMBL flat-file records. Such software is generally available on common desktop platforms; the exact import options depend on the application.
Specialized sequence-analysis software can usually import an EMBL record and export it to another sequence format, such as FASTA or GenBank. Exporting to FASTA normally preserves the sequence but may discard EMBL feature annotations and other record information.
If no conversion is required, the text-based record can be retained as is. General file converters are not suitable for interpreting the sequence and annotation fields.
