File type category:
Backup file
Date updated: October 27, 2026
Quicken is personal finance software developed by Intuit, Inc. Quicken is available for Microsoft Windows and macOS, but the qmd file extension is associated with the older Windows editions.
A qmd file contains a backup of Quicken financial data from Quicken for Windows version 5 or 6. It is a legacy backup format rather than a general-purpose document format.
Open a qmd file with the Windows edition of Quicken that created it, or with a compatible older Quicken release. Current versions of Quicken may not open this legacy backup directly.
If the file is not recognized, restore it with a compatible older Windows version of Quicken first.
Conversion to other formats is not possible.
